Masked Antifa demonstrators dressed in black from head to toe and brandishing weapons — including AR-15s — stood guard outside a “kid-friendly” drag show in Texas on Sunday.
The event took place at the Anderson Distillery and Grill in Roanoke, Texas, leading to clashes between Antifa activists and other demonstrators. According to Fox News, roughly 20 children and several self-identified teachers attended the drag show during which performers collected dollar bills.
One Twitter user who shared photos of the scene said that the Antifa demonstrators were carrying at least nine AR-15s.
“Armed #Antifa showed up in Roanoke, TX to protect the ‘kid friendly’ drag show at this bar. Armed #Antifa escorted attendees to the vehicles. I counted about 9 AR-15s. @CityofRoanokeTX @SaraGonzalesTX @TaylerUSA @WatchChad @theblaze @BlazeTV,” the Twitter post stated.
Independent journalist Andy Ngo, who has covered Antifa extensively, shared footage of the event on Twitter.
“.@scrowder has a preview video out of their on-the-ground coverage of the #Antifa militia & family drag queen event in Roanoke, Texas on Sunday. Armed and masked Antifa members came to stop conservative protesters who opposed the event,” Ngo tweeted.
Protect Texas Kids, a nonprofit group that describes itself as seeking to “take a stand in protecting kids from the toxic, indoctrinating agenda of the left by exposing the truth behind the ongoing assault that has been ruthlessly waged against our children,” was among those who protested the event.
“This lady with her child has repeatedly flashed us while protesting the kid friendly drag show. She also shoved her child when he tried to hold her back. She repeatedly has been screaming in our faces,” the group posted on Facebook.
In the video, the woman screams that the Protect Texas Kids protester is “one ugly f-cking terrorist c-nt.”
Elm Fork John Brown Gun Club (EFJBGC), a group linked to Antifa which claims to “[promote] and [assist] marginalized communities in organizing community defense against white supremacists [and] fascism,” called on its supporters to push back on Protect Texas Kids, Fox News reported.
The group later appeared to take credit for the ANTIFA presence, tweeting, “When Kelly recovered she took this lovely picture of us. Her camera is bad tho.”
In another video, opposing protesters hurl threats at each other while the Antifa demonstrators demand its counter protesters leave the area.
“In Joe Biden’s America ANTIFA dresses like secret police to guard a drag show for kids in Texas. As someone who survived ANTIFA’s wrath, we must restore law and order in America, which starts with Republicans winning control of Congress in November!” a Twitter user wrote.
Another Twitter user noted that police were present outside the event.
“Heavily armed masked #Antifa ‘stand guard’ outside #Texas ‘kid friendly’ drag show to prevent anyone stopping the #childabuse, and police stand by doing nothing,” the user tweeted.
