Last week, a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) employee in Utah was arrested and charged with sexually abusing multiple children, including a young girl who was either 6 or 7 years old.

According to Fox13, Robert Alexander Smith, 65, was charged with four counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, four misdemeanor counts of lewdness involving a child and two misdemeanor counts of lewdness.
Court documents revealed that the FBI employee’s arrest was made after a young girl alerted her mom to the abuse, which she described as “very uncomfortable. The girl said Smith forced her to touch him inappropriately under his clothes multiple times in 2020. She was either 6 or 7 at the time of the abuse, KSL-TV reported.
Authorities interviewed four other child victims who said Smith sexually abused them, as well. One of the girls described abuse that was similar to the first girl’s allegations. The three other girls said the FBI employee touched them inappropriately under their clothing.
Smith allegedly abused the five young girls at his Stansbury Park home. Authorities said Smith “occupied a position of special trust as it pertains to the victims in this case” and was described as a caregiver who had authority over the children.
A spokesperson with the FBI’s Salt Lake City Division responded to the abuse in a statement, saying, “We are aware of the arrest of an FBI employee. The FBI takes allegations of misconduct very seriously. As such, the incident has been referred to the FBI’s Internal Affairs Section. We cannot comment further on an ongoing personnel matter.”
The FBI has been the target of criticism relating to abuse and misconduct for years. Most recently, the bureau came under fire after tech CEO Mark Zuckerberg admitted that a warning from the FBI was behind Facebook’s decision to censor the Hunter Biden laptop story ahead of the 2020 election.
“We just kind of thought, hey, look, if the FBI, which I still view as a legitimate institution in this country, it’s like very professional law enforcement, they come to us and tell us that we need to be on guard about something, then I want to take that seriously,” Zuckerberg said.
According to a Media Research Center poll conducted in the immediate aftermath of the 2020 election, 16 percent of Biden voters said they would not have voted for Biden if they had known about the FBI’s investigation into the Biden family – meaning the public’s awareness of the Hunter Biden laptop scandal would likely have changed the outcome of the election.
