A Fort Wayne man faces drunken driving charges after police said he was driving a military vehicle in a convoy while he was intoxicated Monday night.

Deputies from the Porter County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched at 7:24 p.m. Monday to 450 E. U.S. 30 in Washington Township for a call about a possible intoxicated driver in a military convoy, according to a police report.

When deputies arrived, they saw several military vehicles pulled over on the south side of U.S. 30. The passenger in one of the vehicles, a 2006 Expansible MTV-W/E truck, told police that Jose Lacot-Lopez, 42, was driving when the convoy pulled over for vehicle maintenance.

Other Army soldiers observed an open case of beer inside the vehicle, according to police, and Lacot-Lopez allegedly admitted to police and other soldiers that he drank two beers before driving from Portage to where the convoy stopped.

He told police he had the beers approximately two hours before driving, according to the report. Police said he had a blood-alcohol level of .12%.

Police transported Lacot-Lopez to Porter County Jail on three misdemeanor counts related to operating while intoxicated.
