Two Navy sailors suffered unspecified injuries Thursday in a gas leak at the BAE Systems shipyard in San Diego, authorities said.
The leak was reported about 10:30 a.m. during routine maintenance of the Mustin, a guided missile destroyer, Navy Lieutenant Junior Grade Ronan Williams said.
The incident prompted a response from hazardous-materials teams with the county and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, and the ship’s crew was evacuated until the leak was contained, Navy and San Diego Fire-Rescue officials said.
The injured sailors were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Karl Johnson, director of communications for BAE Systems, said several shipyard employees and Navy sailors were evaluated and released at the scene.
The cause of the leak was under investigation.
