Twitter erupted over the weekend with debates over whether Anne Frank – a 13-year-old Jewish girl who was forced to hide from the Nazis in 1942 before dying in a concentration camp – had so-called “white privilege.”
The trending topic was sparked by a now-deleted tweet posted by Twitter user @Ka1zoku_Qu0d, which stated, “Hold on I want to make sure I say this carefully. Yeah Anne Frank had white privilege. Bad things happen to people with white privilege also but don’t tell the whites that.”
The user who wrote the controversial tweet self-identifies as a “Marxist-Humanist” and “Hedonist-Utilitarian,” and his Twitter bio also includes the slogans “I want to eat the rich” and “ACAB,” meaning “All Cops Are Bastards.”
Another Twitter user agreed that Anne Frank had “white privilege,” writing, “Yes, all white people are safe. No one is saying the Nazis didn’t target white people, just that white people can hide behind their whiteness, whereas in Nazi USA black people can’t. Go tell black people the whites got it hard.”
Many on Twitter slammed the assertion that Anne Frank had “white privilege,” including Israeli-American writer Emily Schrader, who blasted the attacks on Frank as antisemitic.
“Anne Frank was murdered for not being white. Six million Jews were murdered for not being white,” she tweeted. “Twitter isn’t the problem, #antisemitism is.”
Republican Texas congressional candidate Irene Armendariz-Jackson expressed her disbelief at the trending discussion.
“I cannot believe I log on to Twitter this morning and see Leftists unironically debating whether or not Anne Frank had white privilege,” she tweeted. “At what point do we just stop and realize they’ve lost their minds?”
Tennessee congressional candidate Robby Starbuck criticized the “woke left” for debating Anne Frank’s “white privilege,” and predicted the “insane” topic as one of the reasons Republicans will take control of Congress in November.
“The woke left is legitimately so insane that they’ve reached the point where they even accuse ANNE FRANK of having white privilege,” he tweeted. “This is just one of many reasons normal Americans will elect a massive red wave of Republicans in November. We’ve ALL had enough of this nonsense!”
Israeli activist Hen Mazzig tweeted that he had “seen people call Anne Frank ‘a Becky,’ ‘privileged,’ and ‘lucky.’”
“We are talking about a child who was murdered,” he added. “Show some decency and respect.”
Conservative podcaster Matt Walsh argued on Twitter that Anne Frank did have “white privilege” by the Left’s standards, which should demonstrate that the concept is “insane.”
“According to the Left’s doctrine of white privilege, yes Anne Frank had it,” he wrote. “If that makes the concept of “white privilege” sound insane, well right exactly.”
