Alabama WWII veterans turns 102, family asks for birthday cards

You can join in the celebration for an Alabama World War II veteran who is celebrating his 102nd birthday.

Sherwin Callander of Madison will celebrate his birthday June 4th. His family is asking people send birthday cards in his honor, WAAY reported. Cards can be sent to:

Callander joined the Navy in 1939, serving aboard the USS Wright in the area of Midway Island. The ship was on its way to Pearl Harbor the day the Japanese launched a sneak account against the U.S. forces there.

He was later sent to Australia and then three invasions into North Africa, Italy and France, where he was part of operations at Utah Beach.
