The State of Texas dropped off dozens of illegal immigrants in Washington, D.C., Wednesday morning on the first bus organized by the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) as part of Gov. Greg Abbott’s new plan to combat the Biden administration’s open-border policies.
Fox News was on the scene when the buses arrived in the nation’s capital around 8 a.m. local time, just blocks away from the United States Capitol building. The outlet reported that the illegal immigrants – whose home countries include Colombia, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela – were transported from the Del Rio sector in Texas.
Gov. Abbott announced last week that his state would send illegal immigrants to Washington, D.C. on charter buses and planes after President Joe Biden’s administration revealed an upcoming end to pandemic-era asylum limits, which officials believe could lead to a flood of more than 500,000 illegal immigrants every month.
Abbott said “hordes of illegal immigrants who are being dropped off by the Biden administration” are overwhelming Texas communities.
“We are sending them to the United States capital where the Biden administration will be able to more immediately address the needs of the people that they are allowing to come across our border,” he continued. “The first location will be the steps of the United States Capitol.”
According to the TDEM, the governor’s plan has already had an impact on local Texas communities, which say the federal government has stopped transporting illegal immigrants to their town’s since Abbott’s announcement, Fox reported.
While the White House called Abbott’s plan a “publicity stunt,” a Texas mayor said U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents have been instructed to tell illegal immigrants not to board any buses bound for D.C.
“We are a small town with very limited resources,” Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin told Breitbart. “We are already faced with police pursuits and migrants harassing or threatening our residents nearly every day.”
“If Biden releases them into our community, I will be there to encourage them to take the free trip to D.C.,” he added. “I will tell them D.C. has lots of transportation venues to take you to New York City, Baltimore, Philadelphia, or any other city on the Eastern Seaboard.”
McLaughlin said sending the illegal immigrants to Washington will help shed light on the potentially dangerous illegal immigrants who are entering the United States.
“Let them see what we are getting and dealing with. It is not just families who are coming here — most are single adults and we have no idea who most of them are,” he added.
