A man in San Antonio, Texas, shot a suspect who was attempting to carjack his vehicle while attacking him on Tuesday.

According to News4 San Antonio, the attempted carjacking occurred at a gas station on the corner of San Pedro and Ramsey around 10 a.m.

“HAPPENING NOW: the scene of a shooting at the QT gas station at the corner of Ramsey & San Pedro,” tweeted Reporter Chelsea Torres.

Torres reported that while the suspect was trying to steal the car, a fight broke out between the carjacker and his victim. The carjacker then tried driving away, but the car’s owner pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots, striking the suspect several times.

The attempted carjacker was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition while police questioned the victim.

The San Antonio Police Department is investigating the incident.

Earlier this month, an elderly woman suffered serious injuries during another carjacking incident in the Texas city, KWTX reported.

Great-grandmother Shirlene Hernandez, 72, was walking into a Shell gas station when a man grabbed her. The suspect punched her several times in the face while attempting to take her car keys.

Hernandez said three other men tried to stop the attacker, but he still managed to escape with her car. Police later found her car totaled on the interstate with the suspect dead inside.

“There’s a lot of people who would say what goes around comes around, karma. I did not think that; the only thing I got (was) really sad because he had died,” Hernandez said. “Now granted, he had hurt me, but the Lord saw fit to take him out of his misery.”

Hernandez, whose face was black and blue from the attack, said she is ok, but still doesn’t have a car, which she needs to get to work.

The elderly victim’s granddaughter established a GoFundMe in an effort to buy Hernandez a new car. As of Wednesday afternoon, the fundraiser has reached $31,515.

“Hi, my name is Helen, and I am helping my 71-year-old grandma Shirlene. On April 12th, she was carjacked from a Shell station in San Antonio on her way to work. The man who took her car hit her with the door, badly bruising her face,” the fundraiser’s description states. “The man wrecked her car and totaled it, leaving her without a way to get to work or appointments. Any donation helps get her back on her feet and is greatly appreciated.”
