Police at JBLM respond after unconfirmed reports of active shooter

Police at Joint Base Lewis-McChord responded Thursday morning to unconfirmed reports of an active shooter at the military base. The base later said there was no active threat and the area was secured.

Law enforcement responded about 10 a.m. for reports of an active shooting incident near Lewis North, according to a tweet from the base’s public affairs division. Lewis North is an area of the base northwest of Interstate 5 near American Lake.

“At this point, there is no indication an active shooter incident occurred,” the base said in the tweet.

Lewis North was secured by law enforcement. According to the tweet, police were clearing the area. No more details were immediately available.
