Lawmakers in Washington, D.C., have allegedly invited Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) to an orgy and done cocaine in front of him, the congressman claimed while describing the capital city’s “sexual perversion” in an interview on Thursday.
Cawthorn, 26, was responding to “Warrior Poet Society” podcast host John Lovell’s question about whether the Netflix show “House of Cards” was “fictitious” or “closer to like a documentary.”
“The only thing that isn’t accurate about that show is that you could never get a piece of legislation about education passed that quickly,” Cawthorn replied. “I look at all these people, a lot of them that I’ve looked up to through my life, I’ve always paid attention to politics.”
“Then all of the sudden you get invited to, ‘Well hey, we’re going to have kind of a sexual get together at one of our homes, you should come,’” he continued. “I’m like, ‘What did you just ask me to come to? And then you realize they are asking you to come to an orgy.”
Cawthorn also said he has seen lawmakers “leading” anti-addiction efforts doing cocaine.
“Or the fact that, you know, some of the people that are leading on the movement to try and remove addiction in our country and then you watch them do, you know, a key bump of cocaine right in front of you and it’s like, wow, this is wild,” Cawthorn said.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) reportedly vowed to address the controversial comments with Cawthorn after other GOP lawmakers expressed frustration over the allegations.
“Multiple sources tell me Leader Kevin McCarthy says he plans to talk to freshman Rep. Madison Cawthorn over his orgy remarks,” Politico reporter Olivia Beavers tweeted. “Told several House Rs stood up who were upset. They said it wasn’t ok, they don’t believe it, etc.”
“Hear Rep. Steve Womack stood up, said he hardly ever stands to talk, he has to say something about this bc now he is getting Qs about which members partaking in orgies after Cawthorn suggested they are happening in DC along w/ the use of cocaine. Told Cawthorn not there this am,” she wrote in a second tweet.
This is the second time in just weeks that Cawthorn has made waves among lawmakers in his own party. Earlier this month, the congressman called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a “thug” who is presiding over a “corrupt” and “evil” government.
“Remember that Zelenskyy is a thug,” Cawthorn said. “Remember that the Ukrainian government is incredibly corrupt and is incredibly evil and has been pushing woke ideologies.”
McCarthy later rebuked Cawthorn’s characterization of Zelenskyy in a press conference.
“Madison is wrong. If there’s any thug in this world, it’s Putin,” he said.
