San Diego police shut down a stretch of Pomerado Road near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar on Wednesday after a driver pulled up to the base and falsely claimed a bomb was in the vehicle, officials said.
The driver, who was not a member of the military, arrived at the base about 2:45 p.m., officials said. After making the claim, the individual was taken to a U.S. Marshal’s Office for questioning, and the vehicle was searched.
No evidence of explosives was found.
The vehicle will be held at the base until the driver is released or transferred to local law enforcement, military officials said.
Pomerado Road was closed from Interstate 15 east to Avenue of the Nations for about two hours while military police investigated the driver’s claim.
