Human remains found near Fort Bragg in October have been identified as a Fayetteville woman missing since January, officials said Thursday.
Priscilla Sands, 56, was last seen Jan. 7 walking away from her home in the 6000 block of Charles Street.
On Oct. 5, human remains were found on Interstate 295 near Fort Bragg and military officials assumed the death investigation, according to a news release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
On Wednesday, the Army Criminal Investigation Division informed the Sheriff’s Office that the remains were identified as Sands, the release said.
“It is with great sadness, we report that the deceased person has been positively identified as Priscilla Sands,” the release states.
“We hope the community will come together during this difficult time. Please keep the family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. Our deepest and sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Priscilla Sands.”
A cause of death was not released.
