Daylight saving time 2021: Here’s when to turn your clocks back

Traveling in time is a skill many wish they had, and if you stay up until 2 a.m. Sunday morning, you might just experience it.

Well, not really, but the clocks do turn back.

Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday when we turn our clocks back an hour.

The 1966 Uniform Time Act, which established the length of daylight saving time, and the 2005 Energy Policy Act, which extended it to its current conditions, shaped how the U.S. now tells time throughout the year.

Arizona and Hawaii are the only states that do not observe the shift.

While the remaining 48 states anticipate the beloved extra hour of sleep on Sunday, the change in time does come with dangers.

According to a Healthline, car accidents increase by 6% in the week after daylight saving time begins and ends.

“The annual time switch increases sleep deprivation, resulting in jet lag-like symptoms that leave people feeling drowsy behind the wheel of a car,” the article said.

Public safety officials also recommend changing batteries in your smoke detector whenever daylight saving time begins and ends.
