This is the first time Lowe’s is giving first responders a discount but has a military discount.
— Doctors, nurses, firefighters and police officers are eligible for Lowe’s first responders discount.
— National First Responders Day is Oct. 28 but some states also honor first responders on other days.
Lowe’s is launching a new discount for first responders to thank them for their service.
For three days, Oct. 22-24, eligible first responders can save 10% on select items at stores nationwide and at Lowes.com, the home improvement chain shared exclusively with USA TODAY Wednesday.
Starting Wednesday and through Oct. 24, firefighters, emergency medical technicians/paramedics, police officers, 911 dispatchers, nurses and physicians can sign up for the coupon at Lowes.com/firstresponders. At the site, fill out a short form to verify eligibility with ID.me, a verification service.
“We’ve always been huge supporters of our first responders,” Lowe’s chairman and CEO Marvin Ellison said in an interview with USA TODAY. “As we think about the global health crisis and all of the natural disasters, we just felt it was appropriate for us as a large company to just show a gesture of goodwill and gratitude.”
After first responders successfully register, they will get an email from Lowe’s with the discount that can be used in-store, online or the retailer’s app on a single purchase of full-price merchandise. There’s a limit of one coupon per household and some exclusions apply.
The discount comes ahead of National First Responders Day, which is Oct. 28. Some states also honor first responders on other days, including Sept. 11.
