43 shot, 4 fatally during weekend in Chicago

Four people, including a 17-year-old boy, were fatally shot between Friday evening and Monday morning. They were among 43 people shot in Chicago during the weekend.

Two men were shot, one fatally, in the 3400 block of West Douglas Boulevard in Lawndale around 3 p.m. Sunday, police said. A 43-year-old man was in front of an apartment building when a light-colored vehicle pulled up. A person inside the vehicle pulled out a firearm and shot the man, who suffered a gunshot wound to his head. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died. He had not been identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office early Monday.

Another man, 32, suffered gunshot wounds to his left leg in the same attack. He took himself to Stroger Hospital where his condition was stabilized.

Police said a 44-year-old man was found lying outside with a gunshot wound to his chest in the 600 block of East 92nd Place on Saturday at 10:40 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:52 p.m. and later identified as Edward Hudson, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Early Monday, three men standing in the street suffered gunshot wounds as they were shot from the sidewalk in 8800 block of South Parnell Avenue in Gresham. A 33-year-old man was taken to University of Chicago Hospital with wounds to his left leg and back. He was listed in serious condition.

A 28-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his right leg and took himself to Advocate Trinity Hospital before being transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in fair condition. Another man, 27, suffered gunshot wounds to his ankles and took himself to Jackson Park Hospital where he was listed in good condition.

In other shootings between Sunday evening and Monday morning:

  • A man, 37, was walking on the sidewalk when three men began shooting at him, hitting him in the back about 1:37 a.m. Monday in the 5900 block of South Campbell Avenue in Chicago Lawn. He was taken to University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.
  • A 22-year-old man was driving on 78th Street near the 7700 block of South Sawyer Avenue when a man fired at him from the sidewalk at 10:35 p.m. Sunday. The man’s friends took him to Holy Cross Hospital with a gunshot wound to his face. He was then transferred to Mount Sinai in fair condition.
  • Around 9:25 p.m. Sunday, a man, 22, was walking on the sidewalk when he was shot in the back in the 5400 block of South Wells Street in Fuller Park. He was taken to University of Chicago Hospital in fair condition.
  • A 40-year-old man was walking to his white Range Rover when a man with a handgun demanded his keys in the 6400 block of North Milwaukee Avenue. When the SUV owner refused, the man fired several times, striking him in the left arm and chest. The shooter then fled in the Range Rover. The man was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in critical condition.
  • A man suffered a graze wound to his back in the 5200 block of South Rockwell Street in Gage Park around 8 p.m. Sunday. He refused emergency medical services.
  • In the 1300 block of North Hudson Avenue in Old Town, a man was near the sidewalk when he was shot in the arm around 6:30 p.m. Sunday. He took himself to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and his condition was reported as unknown.
  • An 18-year-old man was in front of a residence in the 7400 block of South Colfax Avenue when two men approached and fired at him, striking him in the knee around 4:50 p.m. Sunday. The teen was taken to University of Chicago Hospital in fair condition.
  • Around 4:55 p.m. Sunday, a 20-year-old man was near a residence when the occupant of a car shot at him in the 4900 block of West Cortez. He was hit on the hand and suffered two graze wounds to his side. He was taken to Mount Sinai in good condition.
  • A 22-year-old man was near the sidewalk when he was shot at from an approaching vehicle in the 6800 block of South Maplewood Avenue in Marquette Park. He was hit in the high and took himself to Holy Cross Hospital. He was listed in good condition.
  • At 2 p.m. Sunday, two men were traveling in a vehicle on 102nd Street. Another vehicle pulled up and the occupants fired shots at the two men. The men’s’ car then hit the porch of a house in the 10200 block of South Indiana Avenue and came to a stop. One of the men, 19, suffered a graze wound to his face, and the other man, 20, suffered a gunshot wound to his left arm. They were both taken to Roseland Hospital in good condition.
