Police are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone possessing or distributing fireworks on Staten Island.
According to a flyer posted Wednesday on Twitter by the NYPD’s 121st Precinct: “If you have fireworks we can ARREST YOU.”
Police say they also can seize a person’s vehicle or close a business in connection with a fireworks arrest.
Mayor Bill de Blasio last week announced a new task force to address the ongoing problem of illegal fireworks.
Throughout the pandemic, Staten Islanders and residents across the city have complained about the issue.
This year, nearly 2,500 311 complaints have been filed regarding the problem citywide since May 1, according to public records.
The new task force, a joint effort among several local and non-local agencies, will work to address the issue with a focus on fireworks coming into the city from places outside the five boroughs.
To report a crime in process involving fireworks, residents should call 911. To provide information they can call 311.
