The U.S. Coast Guard rescued an injured fisherman more than 100 miles off the coast of Cape Cod early Tuesday, authorities said.
Coast Guard District One watchstanders were alerted around 6:30 a.m. by the crew of the commercial fishing vessel Mary Anne, whose home port is in New Bedford, that a 56-year-old crew member was experiencing severe abdominal pain, according to a statement from the military branch.
An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod and safely hoisted the fisherman from the boat around 9:30 a.m. He was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment, the statement said.
The military branch captured the rescue on video. The footage, which lasts roughly 2 minutes, shows a member of the Coast Guard being lowered from a line to the Mary Anne, where he straps the fisherman to a rescue basket to be lifted to the helicopter.
