Vietnam War hero Richard A. Pittman honored during Medal Of Honor Day observance

Late Stockton war hero Richard A. Pittman was honored Thursday during a Stockton Medal of Honor Day observance. The downtown ceremony, put on by the Stockton Marine Corps Club, honored Pittman, a U.S. Marine who received the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions on July 24, 1966, during the Vietnam War.

Pittman died in Stockton on Oct. 13, 2016, at the age of 71. The highest honor for military service, the Medal of Honor to Pittman by President Lyndon B. Johnson on May 14, 1968.

In 2015, the United States Postal Service commemorated his bravery on one of the agency’s Medal of Honor: Vietnam War Forever Stamps, and in 2019, the American Veterans Post 1947 was named in his honor.
