An FDNY firefighter was hit in the head by a falling air conditioner unit as he worked on a Brooklyn blaze Monday morning.
Video posted to social media shows the disturbing moment when the air conditioner strikes the firefighter as he walks by, sending him crumpling to the ground. A moment later, his fellow firefighters are seen rushing to his aid.
The smoke eater was responding to a two-alarm blaze at a two-story home on 85th St. at 19th Ave. in Bensonhurst just after 8:50 a.m., FDNY officials said.
He was taken to Lutheran Hospital in stable but serious condition, the FDNY said, and his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
It’s not clear if the air conditioner was thrown or fell accidentally. The NYPD did not receive a complaint report, police officials said Monday.
Five other firefighters suffered minor injuries battling the blaze, the FDNY said.
“All details of the incident and the fire are under investigation,” an FDNY spokesman said.
