Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser ordered a citywide curfew on Wednesday as rioters stormed the Capitol building, forcing evacuations and lockdowns.

“Today, I’m ordering a citywide curfew for the District of Columbia from 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, until 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 7,” the mayor tweeted. Also in the tweet was an official statement from Bowser, noting that “during the hours of the curfew, no person, other than persons designated by the Mayor, shall walk, bike, run, loiter, stand, or motor by car or other mode of transport upon any street, alley, park, or other public place within the District.” Under the mayor’s order, the curfew will not apply to essential workers, including media with credentials, while “engaged in essential functions” including travel to and from work. The curfew comes amid the “Save America” pro-Trump rally that turned violent Wednesday, with rally attendees forcing their way into the Capitol building. The U.S. Capitol was put under lockdown after rioters managed to break into the building. A video from Twitter showed the “last audible words from the Senate feed” were “The protesters are in the building.” One user on Twitter shared a video, noting, “An attempt to take down the U.S. flag and replace with a Trump flag at the Capitol.” Protestors continued to attempt breaching doors on all ends of the Capitol well into the late afternoon. Another Twitter user posted a video showing police blocking a door into the building as protesters carrying American and Trump flags demanded they move. “Police attempt to block a door into the Capitol as Trump supporters close in from both sides,” the user tweeted. Another user shared a picture of a man leaning back on a chair in what was allegedly Nancy Pelosi’s office while an American flag rests on the table next to him. “Is this really some guy just kicking it in Pelosi’s office?” the Daily Caller’s Geoffrey Ingersoll tweeted. The New York Times reported that the Army activated the entire District of Columbia National Guard in response to the rioting on Capitol Hill. Roughly 1,100 troops will be deployed throughout the city. In another video posted on social media, a gunshot is heard ringing through the United States Capitol. A woman was reportedly shot inside the Capitol building Wednesday, Fox 5 reported.
