Border Patrol agent in New Mexico shot at a person driving a vehicle toward him on Friday night.
Authorities report the shooting happened about 9:50 p.m. Oct. 2 along Highway 80.
The Border Patrol agent, who was assigned to the Lordsburg Station, attempted to stop a vehicle suspected of being involved in human smuggling, authorities report. The driver of the vehicle didn’t yield and allegedly tried to strike the officer with the vehicle. The agent shot at the driver, authorities report.
The agent who shot at the vehicle was not injured, authorities report.
Border Patrol reported Saturday morning that the driver “absconded” in the vehicle. Agents are working with local authorities to find the suspect.
