Another Fort Hood soldier has died, Army officials announced on Friday.
Pvt. Corlton L. Chee, 25, from Pinehill, New Mexico died on Sept. 2, just days after he collapsed during physical training on Aug. 28.
Chee was originally transported to Carl R. Darnall Medical Center, and was moved to Baylor Scott and White in Temple, Texas on Aug. 30. It was there that Chee passed away this week with family by his side.
“Our team is devastated by the loss of Pvt. Chee. Corlton was an amazing Trooper and so full of life and potential.” said Lt. Col. Ron Sprang, commander of 2nd Bn. 12th Cav. Regt. “Every loss effects every single person in this Battalion because we a family of warriors, but this is exceptionally heartbreaking. The entire Thunderhorse team sends our condolences to his family members and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.”
Chee had joined the Army in February 2020. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division as a Tank Crewman in July 2020.
He had received the National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.
Citing data from Fort Hood officials, the Associated Press reported Chee is the 28th soldier from Fort Hood to die this year.
Chee’s death is currently under investigation. An autopsy is expected to be conducted at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
