Two cargo ships sailing in opposite directions collided Saturday afternoon in the Welland Canal near Port Robinson, Ont., an incident that was captured on video by several bystanders.
The bow of Florence Spirit, which was carrying coal to Quebec, and the bow of the Alanis, which was taking windmill parts to Duluth, Minn., came in contact about 4 p.m., according to online reports.

There were no injuries and no cargo was spilled, according to a spokesperson with the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corp. Video of the collision did not show serious damage.

According to online reports, the Alanis docked in Port Colborne after the incident and the Florence Spirit docked in Thorold pending an investigation. Traffic in the canal was not interrupted.
