A 26-year-old Border Patrol agent who lost communication with his team Thursday has died after being found unconscious on a New Mexico trail.
Johan Mordan, a first-year agent working out of the Lordsburg Station, was patrolling a remote area of southwestern New Mexico Thursday when he stopped responding to calls, U.S. Border Patrol officials said Saturday.
Agents found him lying “unresponsive” on the trail and immediately began CPR, but were unable to save him.
A cause of death is pending an autopsy.
“It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of Border Patrol Agent Johan Mordan of El Paso Sector,” U.S. Customs and Border Protection acting Commissioner Mark Morgan tweeted.
“He served his country and community with honor. Our thoughts are with his loved ones and the entire Border Patrol community during this time.”
