A pair of police officers in Oklahoma are in critical condition after being shot early Monday morning, authorities said.
The officers with the Tulsa Police Department both underwent surgery following the shooting. Neither have been identified by their department.
Tulsa Police wrote on social media that the officers had encountered a suspect, identified as David Ware, at about 3:30 a.m.
“A scuffle ensued with the suspect, Ware pulled a gun on the officers and fired multiple times,” reads the department’s post.
Police are now searching for Ware, who fled on foot following the encounter. It’s unclear why police had been interacting with the suspect ahead of the shooting.
The encounter between police and Ware occurred near 8900 E. 21st street, located on the east side of Tulsa.
“If you live in this area be very aware of your surroundings, if your dogs are barking call us and we’ll come check it out,” police said.
“If he is willing to shoot at us, he is likely willing to shoot at anyone.”
