Veterans and active duty service members have until Friday to enter into a contest to win a free “countryside tiny home.”

National building construction supplier and installer 84 Lumber, which was founded in 1956 by Air Force veteran Joe Hardy and has a local store off Belt Boulevard in Fayetteville, is hosting the contest for its fifth year.

Organizers said the contest coincides with Military Appreciation Month to honor veterans and service members.

“Since 84 Lumber was founded nearly 65 years ago, we have always had a strong commitment to our military members,” said Amy Smiley, vice president of marketing at 84 Lumber. “With everything going on in the world right now, we thought this would be a good year to go all out for those who serve us.

Contest organizers said to enter, any military service member, veteran or loved one of a veteran or service member can upload a video telling how the 84 Lumber Countryside Tiny House would impact the service member’s or veteran’s life.

Videos should be 7 minutes or less, 120 megabytes, mention the military branch and how the tiny house would be used if won.

The contest ends at 11:59 p.m. Friday.

Among other rules, content cannot infringe on trademarks or logos or advertise and promote brand and products without permission; and entries should not include personal identification such as license plates or street addresses.

Organizers said entries will be judged based on the nominee’s need, how the nominee plans to use the “tiny house” and the nominee’s proximity to an 84 Lumber location.

The 84 Lumber donations committee will select one winner, who will be responsible for securing necessary permits and must demonstrate ownership of land to receive the free tiny house.

“We’re excited to hear everyone’s stories and to give a tiny house to someone in need,” Smiley said.

The tiny house has an approximate retail value of $79,884 and includes: a 203 square foot living space, 53 square foot one bedroom loft, one bath with a composting toilet and full-sized shower, closet, energy saving lighting and refrigerator, butcher block countertop, stainless steel sink, 36 gallon freshwater storage tank, dual-split heating, ventilation and air conditioning system and tankless water heater.

In addition to the tiny house giveaway, 84 Lumber is also providing a 10% discount to military service members and first responders this month.
