Here are 14 crazy riot videos from wild vandalism to rocks thrown through firefighters’ windows to peaceful gatherings

Increasingly violent and destructive protests spread throughout Minneapolis, Minnesota after the death of George Floyd while he was in police custody Monday. Floyd was killed after a police officer pinned him to the ground, with a knee on the back of his neck, prompting outrage and calls for the officers involved to be arrested.

Videos captured the fourth night of protests, which saw action in Minneapolis, as well as in New York City, New York; Atlanta, Georgia and in Washington D.C., among others.

“Stop this, now. Not all cops are bad! My dad is a retired lieutenant and he protected all people,” one Twitter user posted, along with video of rioters smashing in the windshield of an NYPD police cruiser. “This is just wrong. It’s not a protest, it’s a riot. If the cops tried to stop it though, it would be racist right? End this, please. George would NOT have wanted this.”

Video captured Friday night showed rioters throwing rocks and breaking out the windows of a fire truck at a riot in Atlanta.

Some protesters attempted to maintain the peace during their demonstrations in honor of Floyd.

“Harlem’s protest for George Floyd is very peaceful. Don’t let anyone lie,” one Twitter user said.

“Peaceful protests are underway in Downtown Houston,” another user tweeted.

Other efforts have been made by those protesting peacefully to stop others from starting violent riots.

“After failing to appropriate the Black People’s Party, entitled white kids appropriated our fight yesterday, and made it dirty,” one Twitter user said. “Then they left us to deal with the police violence they stoked. Listen to the Black Woman desperately begging them to stop.”
“2/Across the country, white privileged kids were caught on camera starting violent riot behavior in the midst of organized Black protests. When we tried to stop them, their buds falsely accused us of assault, stoking further police violence against us.”

While protesters have been criticized for the destruction, police have also been criticized for their tactics in response.

A news crew covering protests in Louisville, Kentucky was shot by an officer using a pepper ball paintball gun, during a live shot.

“Police are not shooting straight at the camera,” a Twitter user said.

Protests in Washington D.C. Friday night also prompted the White House to go on lockdown.

“People have managed to toss over the temporary barricades, they’re being pushed back by the Secret Service. More police arriving. Heating up fast outside the White House’s north lawn,” WTOP reporter Alejandro Alvarez tweeted.

Rioters also formed outside CNN’s headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. Rioters smashed in windows at the news outlet’s lobby, and threw fireworks at Police officers forming a defensive line in the lobby.

Another video, shared by The Sun, showed further footage of the riots outside the CNN headquarters, as well as riots across numerous cities in the country. Many clips showed damaged or burning police vehicles.

Parts of downtown Portland were also vandalized and set on fire Friday night.

Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin, the man videotaped kneeling on Floyd, was arrested on Friday in connection with Floyd’s death. He faces charges of manslaughter and third-degree murder. Three other officers who were present at the seen of the arrest were also reportedly fired by the police department.

Despite the firings and arrests in Floyd’s case, protests continued in Minneapolis on Friday night.

A reporter for The Hill captured footage of the ongoing rioting in the city and indicated protesters he spoke with said they would continue until all four officers involved in Floyd’s case are in custody.

On Saturday morning, hundreds of volunteers in Minneapolis came out to clean up the city streets following the destruction Friday night.

“Huge amount of volunteers out in Minneapolis this afternoon to clean up a neighborhood at the epicenter of last night’s riots,” a Twitter user posted.

On Saturday, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz called for the full mobilization of the state’s National Guard. During his announcement, Walz also drew distinction between peaceful protesters from violent rioters, many of whom he said had come from out of state to take part in the vandalism.
