A NATO service member at Nellis Air Force Base has tested positive for the coronavirus, military officials said today. It is the first confirmed case at the base, officials said.

The service member, who was at the base for a training exercise, entered isolation when they started showing symptoms and will remain in isolation in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention protocols, the Air Force said.

The service member has received medical treatment, officials said.

A news release from the base did not indicate where the service member was being treated or when the case was identified.

“We are following CDC guidance for personnel who had close contact with the affected individual,” the Air Force said in a statement.

Flight operations for the exercise had already concluded and participating personnel are in the process of returning to their home stations, officials said.

“Nellis AFB continues to work closely with our federal, state and local health officials to ensure our detection and response efforts are coordinated,” the statement said. “Nellis AFB leadership will constantly monitor the situation and provide additional information as it becomes available.”
