Two police officers were shot in a Forrest City, Ark. Walmart on Monday morning by a suspect who was shot dead.
Police officers were called after customers noticed an individual behaving strangely and making threats, including a threat to blow up the store, the Associated Press reported.
When officers responded, the suspect opened fire on them, striking two officers. Officers shot back and struck the suspect, ultimately killing him.
Forrest City Police dispatcher Chastity Boyd confirmed to the AP that three people were shot inside the store, but did not confirm additional details.
One officer was airlifted to a regional hospital and the other was transported to a local hospital, CBS News reported.
A large police presence was seen at the Walmart. Employees were also evacuated into the parking lot.
Forrest City is located approximately 85 miles east of Little Rock.
Arkansas State Police tweeted, “The prayers of the ASP are with the 2 Forrest City officers that were injured this morning in a shooting at Walmart. The ASP Criminal Investigation Division has been requested to conduct an investigation of the incident. Please stay away from the area if at all possible.”
