The second trailer for the “Top Gun: Maverick” – the sequel to the 1986 “Top Gun” – released on Monday.

Watch it here:

The jet-powered trailer for the long-awaited sequel sees Tom Cruise reprises his iconic character, of Navy pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.

“Your instructor is one of the finest pilots this program has ever produced,” a narrator introduces Maverick in between cuts of an F-18 Hornet fighter jet and Maverick riding his motorcycle. “His exploits are legendary. What he has to teach may very well mean the difference between life and death.”

The trailer is chock full of death-defying aerial maneuvers.

Maverick appears to have entirely left behind his famed F-14 Tomcat, trading it in for the Hornet fighter jet. The Tomcat from the first movie could still be seen on display, but it appears Maverick is back to lead a new generation of fighter pilots in a new generation of fighter jets.

The second trailer appears to expand beyond the first trailer, released in July of this year, and there are greater hints of the plot in Monday’s trailer, including glimpses of Cruise’s character in what looks like a space suit and and unnamed fighter jet.

The trailer further features Miles Teller as the son of Maverick’s original co-pilot “Goose.”

Actor Jon Hamm is also in the trailer as is actress Jennifer Connelly.

The trailer concluded by indicating a June 2020 release date.

Cruise tweeted the trailer and said “see you in the sky.”

The movie finished filming aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier in 2018.

Production reportedly hit some further delays later in 2018 after Cruise insisted he learn to do the real thing, flying fighter jets.

The original film was a box office success, grossing $353,811,728 worldwide, according to BoxOfficeMojo. The 1986 film was said to have been a boon for recruiters and that it served as the inspiration for many enlistments in the military after its release.
