For nearly half of her life, Nadya Caffey has been an ocean away from her mother.
The 3-year-old Cobb County girl has been occupied with pre-K while her mother, Monika Caffey, has been busy serving as a mechanic in the U.S. Air Force in Japan for the past 18 months, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Nadya told her teacher, Dianne Pile, she wanted one thing for Christmas, and she wasn’t keeping it a secret.
“Every morning she comes in, and in the middle of our group time, she’ll randomly say, ‘I miss my mommy,’” Pile told Channel 2.
On Thursday, that gift arrived early.
Monika Caffey, an Airman First Class, surprised Nadya and her class at North Cobb Christian School in Kennesaw by arriving home early from her deployment.
“I’ve been in Japan for a year and a half,” Monika Caffey told the news station. “I missed her birthday. I missed the first day of school, but I’m here for Christmas!”
Nadya sprinted and jumped into her mom’s arms during the surprise reunion, followed by plenty of hugs and kisses. Nadya also had a bagged gift to welcome her mother home.
The military mom will be with her daughter for the next two months, but they won’t spend all of that time at home.
They’re going to Walt Disney World.
