Fort Bragg officials say a driver got into a crash, stole another vehicle from a good Samaritan who stopped to help, then crashed again into a military police car when the police tried to stop the stolen car.
The incident started about 10:05 p.m. Saturday, a Fort Bragg news release says.
The first crash was near the intersection of Vass Road and Buck Road, the release says.
“A passerby who witnessed the accident stopped to offer assistance. The driver of the wrecked car approached the good Samaritan in a hostile manner” and took the Samaritan’s vehicle, it says.
“Fort Bragg Military Police initiated a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle near Vass and Garland Almond roads,” it says. The driver tried to get away, crashed into a patrol vehicle, got out of the vehicle and ran away, it says.
Spring Lake police later arrested the driver, the news release says.
