A U.S. Border Patrol agent was injured when her car rolled multiple times after sliding off the road near Colville on Sunday morning.
The female agent’s partner, a K-9 named Jackie, died on scene. Early Sunday morning, the agent was patrolling on Highway 395 northwest of Colville when she hit black ice and slid over an embankment, U.S. Border Patrol said in a statement. The car rolled multiple times before coming to a stop.
The “jaws of life” were used to get the border patrol agent out of the car, according to the U.S. Border Patrol Spokane Sector.
The agent was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries. The agent was not identified in the news release.
“Thank you to all the rescuers and medical staff involved and please remember K-9 Jackie and the agent in your thoughts and prayers,” said Acting Chief Patrol Agent David BeMiller in a statement Sunday afternoon.
Jackie had been with the agency since 2015.
