A Major League Baseball umpire is threatening to buy a gun in what he projects will be a civil war if President Donald Trump is impeached.
Umpire Rob Drake posted on his Twitter account on Wednesday, saying, “I will be buying an AR-15 tomorrow, because if you impeach MY PRESIDENT this way, YOU WILL HAVE ANOTHER CIVAL [sic] WAR!!! MAGA2020,” according to ESPN.
The tweet did not last long and was deleted shortly after posting. It had followed a previous tweet in which Drake expressed his frustration over the impeachment inquiry.
“You can’t do an impeachment inquiry from the basement of Capital [sic] Hill without even a vote! What is going on in this country?” he wrote.
Drake has since closed down his Twitter account.
He has worked as a full-time umpire in the MLB since 2010, though debuted in 1999. He has worked on numerous playoff games, according to his MLB bio.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said Wednesday night that the league is looking into the incident, the Associated Press reported.
The Major League Baseball Umpires Association issued a statement saying that Drake’s method of expression was “the wrong way.”
“Rob is a passionate individual and an outstanding umpire. He chose the wrong way to convey his opinion about our great country,” the statement said. “His posting does not represent the view of the MLBUA or reflect those of the umpires we represent.
“The MLBUA supports all of the umpires who ensure fair play in the greatest game on earth. We are a group of individuals with diverse opinions and beliefs, united in our desire to continue our excellence officiating MLB games,” the statement added.
