A 3-year-old Alabama boy spent the night in the woods after wandering off from his family’s home in the Tallassee area Monday evening. The moment of reunification with his father was caught on video.
Zachary Rutherford was reported missing around 7:30 p.m., according to WSFA. A search for the boy ensued and he was eventually found around sunrise on Tuesday. The little boy was found asleep about 750 yards behind his home.
Heith Ritter McCracken, a volunteer who searched for the boy, captured the moment the toddler was reunited with his father.
The Cajun Navy, a volunteer group that assists in search and rescue, assisted with the hunt for Zachary.
“We are thankful for every day men and women who step up during a time of need. Great job to the good Samaritan who showed up with help in his heart, not affiliated with anyone, and let the Lord lead him to this little boy,” the organization wrote on Facebook.
WSFA reported Zachary ran off while playing in the front yard of his home with his dog. The dog returned around 10 p.m. without the boy. The toddler had scratches and bruises but otherwise was uninjured.
