The gunman who opened fire during the horrific mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio, was shot dead by police mere feet away from the door at a crowded bar, surveillance video released by law enforcement shows.
The suspect identified by officials as 24-year-old Connor Betts can be seen in the video running toward the door of the bar early Sunday morning before dropping to the ground as a police officer fatally shoots him.
The video released by the Dayton Police Department shows dozens of people fleeing the scene before the suspect was taken down.
Police say the suspect was brought down less than a minute after he began firing in a prominent bar district in Dayton. He killed nine people and injured at least 27 others in the attack.
“If the Dayton police had not gotten to the shooter in under a minute, hundreds of people in the Oregon District would be dead today,” Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley said Sunday.
The shooting in Dayton occurred just 13 hours after a gunman opened fire in El Paso, Texas on Saturday, killing 21 people and injuring at least 26 others.
