Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says the United States is running “concentration camps” for illegal immigrants at the southern U.S. border with Mexico.

In an Instagram Live video Monday night, Ocasio-Cortez said, “The United States is running concentration camps on our southern border, and that is exactly what they are. They are concentration camps.”

Ocasio-Cortez continued:

“And if that doesn’t bother you, I don’t… I want to talk to the people that are concerned enough with humanity to say that we should not, that ‘never again’ means something. The fact that concentration camps are now an institutionalized practice in the home of the free is extraordinarily disturbing, and we need to do something about it.

This week, children, immigrant children were moved to the same internment camps where the Japanese were held in the earlier 20th Century. And this is not even about a crisis…

This is a crisis on if American will remain America… Or if we are losing to an authoritarian and fascist presidency. I don’t use those words lightly. I don’t use those words to just throw bombs. I use that word because that is what an administration that creates concentration camps is.”

She also tweeted about the camps on Tuesday morning, saying, “This administration has established concentration camps on the southern border of the United States for immigrants, where they are being brutalized with dehumanizing conditions and dying. This is not hyperbole. It is the conclusion of expert analysis.”

The Democrat then linked to an Esquire article titled, “An Expert on Concentration Camps Says That’s Exactly What the U.S. Is Running at the Border.”

“And for the shrieking Republicans who don’t know the difference: concentration camps are not the same as death camps,” Ocasio-Cortez went on to tweet. “Concentration camps are considered by experts as ‘the mass detention of civilians without trial.’ And that’s exactly what this administration is doing.”

Several people responded to Ocasio-Cortez for her inference of the Holocaust and for allegedly likening Trump to Adolf Hitler.

“AOC should apologize to all Holocaust survivors. Now,” wrote Sebastian Gorka.

Daily Wire reporter Ryan Saavedra wrote, “AOC compares Trump to Hitler here: -‘Never Again’ references the Holocaust -Concentration camps are a reference to the Holocaust -AOC mentions WWII internment camps Japanese Americans were forced in -Calling Trump a “fascist” is comparing him to Hitler given the time period.”
