A shooting has taken place at school in Colorado leaving multiple victims injured.
At least seven are confirmed to be injured after a shooting Tuesday afternoon at the STEM School Highlands Ranch, a K-12 school of 1,800 students in the Highlands Ranch suburb just south of Denver.
Douglas County Undersheriff Holly Nicholson-Kluth said injuries may be eight so far, and it is unknown if there are any fatalities at the time.
The local Douglas County Sheriff’s Office tweeted at 2:04 p.m. local time, saying, “Unstable situation, shots fired at STEM school at Ridgeline and Plaza. Avoid area.”

The shooting took place approximately 10 minutes prior to the tweet. Nicholson-Kluth said a police substation is located one block away from the school and the response was almost immediate.
At least two suspects opened fire inside the school. It’s not clear whether they were students of the school.
Authorities are conducting evacuations and investigating whether or not there is a third suspect. The scene is still considered active.
“#stemshooting, at 1:53 pm responded to STEM school off Ridgeline Blvd in HR on call of shots fired in school, first update, 2 injured, deputies in process of identifying and locating shooter(s). Still active and unstable scene,” the DC Sheriff posted an update at 2:40 p.m. local time.

“It’s still an active shooter situation,” Nicholson-Kluth said at an earlier news conference, Denver Post reported. “We still do not know if there are more shooters in the school or more injured.”
Other schools in the area are on lockout.
