A month ahead of John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum’s premiere, a new video shows actor Keanu Reeves training for his big screen role with a Navy SEAL.
Reeves, who plays the relentless assassin John Wick, trained alongside former CIA contractor and Navy SEAL Shawn Ryan in preparation for his role in the anticipated third film in the series, which hits theatres May 17.

Ryan’s company, Vigilance Elite, posted three videos showing the two training together.
The company provides tactical training for law enforcement personnel and civilians.
Ryan worked with Reeves on the correct way to enter a room, how to handle weapons, and the main reason to never stand in a doorway.
Ryan tells Reeves, “We call the doorway the fatal funnel, because that’s where all the rounds are going to come when a person enters a room.”
John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum starts right where John Wick: Chapter 2 left off. Wick has a $14 million bounty on his life and every assassin is on the hunt for him. He needs to make it out of New York alive.
In the previous films, John Wick was excommunicated from his life as an assassin after he broke the rules dedicated to the assassin’s club.
Wick killed the wrong person, Santino D’Antonio, at the wrong place, within the designated safe walls of the hotel for assassins. The penalty should have been death, but Wick was given a one-hour grace period, which leads to the third sequel when that hour is up.
“More than any of the other projects, this one has the least amount of choreography finished before I go to fight. When I did the fight with Common, that fight was choreographed. I don’t have that, so I kind of learn them – and if I do i get it the day before or the day of. The choreography I did today, I learned today. (laughs). So, we make shit up on the day,” Reeves told Collider last month.
“You know, sometimes, I’m not very good, so I need a lot of practice. Because I did extra training, they know that they can – they have a tool box. So, Keanu knows these 21 throws, and he knows these things, and 50 whatever moves, whatever. So, that’s what we have to play with. Then I just show up. (laughs). Or, I’ll show up the weekend before. So, I’ve been training every weekend for the past month. So we just train on the weekend. Then, I learned some fights and invariably we’d come on the set and change things,” he added.
The third movie is directed by Chad Stahelski, and alongside Reeves, the cast includes Halle Berry, Mark Dacascos, Ian McShane, Asia Kate Dillon, Laurence Fishburne, Jerome Flynn, Angelica Huston, Robin Lord Taylor, and Jason Mantzoukas.
“We got ninjas, John Wick on a horse, and in the desert, lots of fighting. Technique wise – oh, we got some swords. What else. Lots of guns,” Reeves said of the third film.
