The State Department reported gunfire “coming from the rear entrace” of the U.S. Embassy in Haiti on Monday.
“Gunfire coming from the rear entrance to the Embassy. Shelter in place is in effect for the Embassy compound. If you are traveling to the Embassy, find a safe area to shelter in place,” the State Department Bureau of Consular Affairs tweeted on Monday.

The issue was resolved around 3 p.m. EST.
“The situation has been resolved and the shelter in place has been lifted,” the bureau tweeted.

No further information was initially available, and it was not known if anyone had been shot or injured.
The U.S. Embassy in Haiti is located in Port-au-Prince, located centrally on the island.
