A man armed with a gun has barricaded himself inside a California restaurant.
Update – 1:40 p.m. PST. Campbell Police Department is still undergoing negotiations with the armed man barricaded inside a Denny’s for more than seven hours after the incident began, Mercury News reported.
“Our SWAT team just used an audible diversionary device to gain the suspect’s attention. We are still trying to communicate with the individual inside,” Campbell Police tweeted at 12:15 p.m. PST.

An earlier tweet at 9:50 a.m. PST said, “Our crisis negotiations team is on scene. We are working to safely make contact with the suspect. We will continue to give updates on Twitter.”

At 8:39 a.m. PST, the department confirmed that one man was inside and believed to be armed.
We’re currently working to safely bring a man out from #Dennys who is believed to be armed.
He is believed to be the only person inside.

The man is reportedly armed and located inside a Denny’s restaurant in Campbell, Calif., ABC7 reported Friday morning.

Video showed a notable police response and officers armed with rifles.
The incident began when two men had a confrontation in the parking lot early Friday morning. The suspect threw a cup of coffee at another individual and drew a gun. Then he entered the restaurant and sat at a booth.
Employees and customers were able to flee the building.

At 7:45 a.m. PST, Campbell Police confirmed the incident on Twitter.
“Working on a incident at the Denny’s on Bascom. Bascom Ave closed from Campbell to Dry Creek. Please avoid the area,” the tweet said.

Campbell is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, just southwest of San Jose.

SWAT officers responded to the scene.

Officers are reportedly using a loudspeaker to communicate with the suspect inside.

Police cordoned off the surrounding area and told citizens to stay away. Traffic delays have taken place as a result of the hours-long ordeal.
