A Chinese admiral has issued a startling threat against the U.S. while touting China’s military prowess.
Rear Adm. Luo Yuan said that the Chinese Navy has amassed the capability of sinking two U.S. aircraft carriers and killing at least 10,000 sailors, a devastating consequence they’re prepared to inflict if the U.S. continues to interfere in the South China Sea, the Daily Mail reported Tuesday.
“What the United States fears the most is taking casualties,” Luo said. “We’ll see how frightened America is.”

He declared that the conflict between China and the U.S. was “definitely not simply friction over economics and trade,” instead calling it a “prime strategic issue,” according to News Corp Australia Network.
He also called on China to “use its strength to attack the enemy’s shortcomings. Attack wherever the enemy is afraid of being hit. Wherever the enemy is weak …”
Luo serves as a rear admiral in China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy, as well as a top figure at the Chinese Academy of Military Sciences. He is well-known for his anti-U.S. remarks.

Earlier in December, Yuan made similar aggressive remarks toward the U.S. regarding their interference with Taiwan.
“If the U.S. naval fleet dares to stop in Taiwan, it is time for the People’s Liberation Army to deploy troops to promote national unity on the island. Achieving China’s complete unity is a necessary requirement,” Yuan said, according to the Chinese state-run publication Global Times.
“The achievement of the past 40 years of reform and opening-up has given us the capability and confidence to safeguard our sovereignty,” he added.
“Those who are trying to stir up trouble in the South China Sea and Taiwan should be careful about their future,” he warned.
Several other Chinese military leaders have made similar remarks to those made by Yuan.
Just last month, Dai Xu, a colonel commander in the PLA Air Force, called on the Chinese military to attack U.S. warships if they enter China’s waters again.
“If the U.S. warships break into Chinese waters again, I suggest that two warships should be sent: one to stop it, and another one to ram it … In our territorial waters, we won’t allow U.S. warships to create disturbance,” Dai said.
Like other Chinese officials, Dai claimed that the presence of U.S. warships in the South China Sea is a “provocation.”
China has acted aggressively to U.S. ships and planes in the South China Sea area. Despite being international waters, China claims the waters as their own and continues to militarize islands in the area.
