A shooting has taken place in Houston, Texas and five police officers have been shot.

At 6:51 p.m. CT on Monday night, Houston Police confirmed that one suspect was down.

“We can confirm 1 suspect is DOA at the scene. SWAT is actively working to make sure there is no one else inside the location at 7800 Harding. Continue to avoid area,” police had tweeted.

Sources told local ABC affiliate KTRK-Houston that as many as three suspects could be involved, with two possibly dead, and one unaccounted for. Law enforcement officials have not yet confirmed this number, however.

Two of the officers are said to be in critical condition, while three are in stable condition, the Houston Police Officers Union told KTRK.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner tweeted, “Suspect in the HPD shooting is down.”

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo tweeted, “We have had several officers shot please pray for officers on the way to the scene now more information to follow.”

The Houston Police Department confirmed that officers arrived at 7800 Harding in southeast Houston where officers attempted to deliver a warrant before multiple officers were shot.

The injured officers were rushed to the hospital.

“At this time we can confirm 5 officers have been struck and transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital, Medical Center and Ben Taub General Hospital,” HPD said in another tweet.

As of 6:20 p.m. CT, HPD considered the scene “still an active crime scene.”

Witnesses said the house is known to the neighborhood to be involved in crime. Some 15-20 gunshots were reported by neighbors in the area.

Joe Gamaldi, president of the Houston Police Officers Union, said that at least one officer was transported by helicopter to the hospital.

Several law enforcement agencies have responded to the scene, including the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI’s Houston branch, as well as the ATF and others.

SWAT teams deployed a robot to the search the home before later entering for a search.
