An Army soldier stationed at Fort Polk in Louisiana was arrested Sunday night after police found a woman’s dead body in his trunk.

Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Kim Myers said 22-year-old Logan T. Kyle was traveling with his two small children, ages one and two, and his girlfriend was behind the wheel, 4WWL News reported.

Someone tipped off the Beauregard Sheriff’s Office, who then passed the information to the Calcasieu Sheriff’s Office. When police pulled the vehicle over, they discovered the body of a woman in the trunk, ultimately identifying it as Kyle’s wife.

The tipster said the pair were headed to the Lake Charles area, KALB News reported.

Police turned the children over to state custody with the Department of Children & Family Services and turned Kyle over to authorities at Fort Polk.

Kyle’s girlfriend, identified as 24-year-old Sarah M. Parker of Moss Bluff, was arrested and charged with obstructing justice and failing to report a homicide.

Kyle allegedly murdered his wife on the Army base and Parker was aware of it, even assisting him in covering up the crime and disposing of the body. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso said both Parker and Kyle admitted everything after their arrests.

No bond has been set for Parker.

Police released the identity of the woman as Shelena Kyle, 22, after the expiration of the Army’s 24-hour waiting period for next of kin notification.

Fort Polk officials said that Shelena Kyle’s death remains under investigation and no further information can be released.

Logan Kyle joined the Army four years ago and has been at Fort Polk since Feb. 2017, Stars and Stripes reported. He is in the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division as an infantry fire team leader.

Col. Kendall J. Clarke, brigade commander said, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of this Patriot Family member. She was a member of our family and her death affects us all. We send our most sincere condolences to her family and friends.”
