Five people were killed, including a 16-year-old boy, and at least 32 other people were wounded in shootings over a violent Halloween weekend.
Most recently, a 23-year-old man was killed and a 24-year-old woman was injured when someone shot into their vehicle Sunday morning in the South Side’s Englewood neighborhood, police said. The pair was in a vehicle about 10:55 a.m. in the 5500 block of South LaSalle Street when someone in a black four-door Audi opened fire, police said. The man was shot in the chest and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The woman was shot in the lower right leg and taken to the same hospital in serious condition.
Earlier Sunday morning, at about 2:15 a.m., a 16-year-old boy and 19-year-old man were walking through an alley in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood when they were shot by someone in a silver sedan. The 16-year-old was shot in the chest and left shoulder and taken to University of Chicago, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The 19-year-old was shot in the foot and showed up at Holy Cross Hospital in stable condition.
About two hours earlier, a 20-year-old man was killed and a 21-year-old woman was wounded in a drive-by shooting about 12:20 a.m. in the 5900 block of South Peoria in the Englewood neighborhood. The pair was standing on the sidewalk when they were shot by someone in a dark-colored SUV. The man, shot in the neck, was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead, said police. The woman, shot in the right leg, was taken to University of Chicago, where she was stabilized.
About 5:50 p.m. Saturday night, a 33-year-old man was parked in the 2000 block of East 95th Street in Calumet Heights. The man was in his vehicle when he was shot in the back by someone in another vehicle. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
The first fatal attack of the weekend happened about 10:30 p.m. Friday in the first block of North Karlov Avenue in the city’s West Garfield Park neighborhood, Chicago police said. A 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were walking on a sidewalk when the assailant walked up and fired. The 20-year-old was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital, and the teen was in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the back, also at Stroger.
In a nonfatal shooting, police were also looking for the gunman who shot a 21-year-old man Saturday afternoon in the Loop. Shortly after 2 p.m. on Wabash Avenue near Monroe Street, the man was walking north on a sidewalk when suddenly another man pointed a gun at him and shot him in the arm, police on the scene said. The victim was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

About 5 a.m., a 15-year-old boy was riding a bike in the 2200 block of South Washtenaw Avenue in Little Village when he was shot in the left leg, said police. He was taken to Mount Sinai, where his condition was stabilized.
Three people were shot about 3:50 a.m. in the 1000 block of West 60th Street in Englewood. They were standing on the sidewalk when someone in a vehicle fired, police said. A 24-year-old woman was shot in the buttocks and taken to Holy Cross, where her condition was stabilized. A 32-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and taken to University of Chicago in critical condition. A 28-year-old woman was shot in the left leg and was taken to the University of Chicago, where she was stabilized.
About 3:20 a.m. a 43-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 5600 block of South Emerald Avenue in Englewood when two men walked up, fired, then drove off in a black Audi SUV. The man was shot in the left leg and taken to University of Chicago, where he was stabilized, police said. Around the same time, a 37-year-old man was driving south in the 2300 block of South Wabash Avenue when someone in a gray sedan fired, police said. He was shot in the back and taken to Mercy, where his condition was stabilized.
About 3:10 a.m., a 22-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk with a group of people in the 2400 block of North Lake Shore Drive in Lincoln Park when he was shot in the left foot. He showed up at Community First in stable condition, said police.
Two people were shot in a drive-by shooting about 3 a.m. in the 3500 block of South Kedzie Avenue in South Lawndale. A 45-year-old woman and 34-year-old man were passengers in a GMC Yukon heading northbound on Kedzie when someone in a black Jeep fired. The woman was taken to University of Illinois Hospital with a graze wound to the right arm. The man was shot in the right knee and also taken to University of Illinois, where his condition was stabilized.
A 21-year-old man was shot in the right leg about 2:30 a.m. in the 900 block of North Latrobe Avenue in South Austin. He was walking on the sidewalk when someone in a red sedan fired, police said. The man showed up at West Suburban in stable condition.
Around 1 a.m. in the 1100 block of South Jefferson Street in the South Loop, near the UIC campus, a man and woman were standing on the street with a group of people when someone fired from a dark-colored sedan. The 36-year-old man was shot in the left leg and taken to Stroger, where his condition was stabilized. The 35-year-old woman was shot in the right leg and taken to Northwestern in stable condition.
About 12:20 a.m., a 28-year-old man was in a backyard in the 1100 block of South Austin Avenue when someone in a white sedan fired and shot him in the left arm. He was taken to West Suburban, where he was stabilized, police said.
Early Sunday morning, about 12:10 a.m., a 31-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 300 block of South Lockwood Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood when someone in a white sedan fired shots. The man was shot in the back and was taken to Stroger, where he was stabilized, police said.
Saturday
About 11:50 p.m., a 14-year-old boy was walking in the 4700 block of West Polk Street when someone in a white sedan fired. He was shot in the left foot and grazed in the left thigh and taken to Stroger, where he was stabilized.
A 17-year-old girl was standing on the sidewalk, also in the first block of North Karlov Avenue, when she heard shots and felt pain, said police. About 8:35 p.m., she was shot in the upper left chest and left forearm and taken to West Suburban Hospital, where she was stabilized.
A 33-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 5800 block of West Division Street in the North Austin neighborhood when he was shot in the left leg about 5:10 p.m. He was taken to West Suburban, where he was stabilized, said police.
About 4 p.m. in the first block of South Leclaire Avenue, a 32-year-old man was shot in the head. He was standing in an alley when he heard shots and felt pain, said police. He was taken to Stroger, where he was stabilized.
A 15-year-old boy was shot in the chest in the 4900 block of South Paulina Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood about 12:25 p.m. Saturday, said Officer Jose Jara, a spokesman for the Chicago police. The boy was taken in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center, said Jara and Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Merritt.
About 10 a.m. a 23-year-old man was shot in the right leg in the 6300 block of South Justine Street in Englewood, Jara said. The victim, who police said was extremely uncooperative, was listed in good condition at the U. of C. Medical Center.
Around 4:40 a.m. in the first block of West Illinois Street in the Near North neighborhood, a 21-year-old man was standing in an alley when he was shot in the left leg. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, police said.
About 4 a.m., a 21-year-old woman was getting into a car in the 900 block of South Independence Boulevard in the Lawndale neighborhood when a gunman ran up and fired, hitting the woman several times in the back, police said. She was taken to Stroger, where her condition had stabilized.
Around 3:20 a.m. in the 2600 block of West 23rd Place in Little Village, a 29-year-old man was shot in the right leg. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was stabilized. At the same time, another 29-year-old man in the 2600 block of West 22nd Place was standing on a corner when someone in a van shot him in the right ankle. He was taken to Mount Sinai in stable condition.
About 12:25 a.m. in the 3900 block of West Gladys Avenue in East Garfield Park, a 26-year-old woman was fighting with another woman on a sidewalk when she “heard shots and felt pain,” police said. She had a gunshot wound to the right leg and was taken to Mount Sinai.
Friday
Around 10:30 p.m. Friday in the 8000 block of South Marshfield Avenue in Gresham, a 36-year-old man was shot in the left leg and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was stabilized, police said.
Around 6:10 p.m. in the 200 block of East 109th Street in Roseland, a 22-year-old man was standing in front of a residence when a beige SUV pulled up and occupants shot the man in the thigh and hand. He was taken to a local hospital, police said.
