Gun maker Walther Arms launched its revised and much-improved CCP (concealed carry pistol) model on Aug. 1 called the Walther CCP M2. The CCP M2 is a lightweight, sub-compact pistol 9mm handgun that is ideal for concealed carry. It has a 3.5-inch barrel, cross-directional texturing on the grip, fore-end accessory rail, manual thumb safety, striker fire indicator, 5.5-pound trigger weight and ships with two single-stack eight-round magazines. It weighs just 22.25 ounces unloaded and 25.5 ounces loaded with eight rounds.
The new Walther CCP M2 offers both new and improved features that are advantageous to shooters who appreciate a soft shooting, delayed blowback gas-operated design. “Gas delayed” means the Walther CCP M2 uses an attached piston to push the gases internally through a gas cylinder, resulting in comfortable shooting with lighter recoil. It also has a light recoil spring that allows the shooter to easily charge the slide to load a 9mm round.
The Walther CCP M2 has several improved features over the original CCP model. The double action trigger has a smooth and crisp pull that breaks at 5.5 pounds. Walther removed the “grit” or “crunchy” trigger from the original CCP, and made it lighter and easier to use, which aides in more precise accuracy. They also added a striker-fire indicator (red button) on the rear of the slide for the shooter to visually observe a charged pistol. The striker fire indicator will show red when charged, and the button is gone with a un-charged pistol.
The main complaint with the original Walther CCP was the disassemble process. It required a key to be inserted to remove the slide from the frame. That required the shooter to have the key and practice the disassemble process. Recognizing this issue, Walther created a “tool-less” and more simple method to field strip the CCP M2. As demonstrated with the video below, both the improved trigger and easier disassemble process are welcome improvements for this handgun.
At the range, the Walther CCP M2 shot incredibly well. Everything from tagging targets to quick transitions and quick double taps, the CCP M2 was accurate and reliable with a variety of 9mm loads. Consistent with my other Walther handguns, the CCP M2 is a smooth shooter and a fine addition to their line of pistols. The MSRP is $469, but I believe the average gun store price will sell the CCP M2 for around $400. This Walther CCP M2 pistol would make a solid concealed carry and/or home defense choice.
