Less than two weeks ago, Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement after 30 years on the Supreme Court.
Justice Kennedy, 81, announced his retirement in a letter to President Trump. Kennedy’s retirement will be effective July 31.
Shortly after, President Trump announced that his search for a new justice would begin “immediately.” He later said that he would announce his selection on July 9.
The potential candidates were rumored to be three federal judges: Raymond Kethledge, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett.
