The Israeli military on Friday engaged in a “wide-scale attack” against Hamas at the Gaza Strip, after Israeli soldiers came under fire, the military said.
The Israeli military later said that “fighter jets commenced a wide-scale attack against Hamas military targets throughout the Gaza Strip,” the Associated Press reported.

The attack was described as “severe” and targeted eight Hamas positions.
It was launched after Palestinians fired shots from the Gaza border. Three Hamas fighters were reportedly killed.

“Hamas chose to escalate the security situation and will bear the consequences for its actions,” the Israeli military said.
Four Palestinians were killed, the Gaza Health Ministry said.
Hamas claimed that those killed were members of their group.
