A U.S. service member has died from wounds sustained during a combat operation in Kabul, Afghanistan, on July 12.

An Afghan security force member was also killed and several others injured during the operation.
This is the the second American death in about a week in Afghanistan.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo just this week made a surprise visit to Kabul to visit troops and officials there to get an update on the status of Trump’s new approach in the Middle East.
On July 7, a U.S. service member was killed and two others injured during an “insider attack” in southern Afghanistan.
The name of the service member is being withheld for 24 hours pending notification of next of kin.
No other information was available at this time.
