A person crashed their car into the U.S. Embassy gates in Seoul, South Korea.

There are unconfirmed reports that the person is a North Korean man seeking asylum. The person has been arrested but not identified.

Photos were posted to social media of the car after it rammed into the gates.

Josh Smith is a correspondent for Reuters in South Korea, and he tweeted: “Somebody decided to ram the front gate of the U.S. Embassy in Seoul tonight.”

RT reported that the man apparently said “help me” several times upon getting out of the vehicle after he rammed it into the gates, and he told police he did that because he has “stories related to North Korea” and wants to “seek asylum in the United States,” according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency.

The driver also said he was a government employee.

A Washington Post reporter also posted a photo of the incident and said the driver is a South Korean who works at the Ministry of Gender and Family, and is seeking asylum because of issues with North Korea.
